Egyptian breakthroughs/inventions

1. The sun dial- Egyptian astronomers used sun dials to tell the time during the day. This lead on to the invention the shadow clock which may have been the first portable timepiece. The sun dial was important because people used it to track days and time.

2.Hieroglyphics-Egyptian made hieroglyphics as a system of writing using symbols. This was important because it was the Egyptians way of keeping records and connecting with the Gods when drawing scenes of the after life.

3.Ox drawn plows-Egyptians made plows that would connect to oxen to farm large areas quicker and for a long period of time. This made it so the farmers could plant more crops and they could produce more food making it an important invention.

4.The Calender-Egyptians used the solar system to make their calender, which is the modern calender that we use today. Egyptians also made the leap year calender, adding one day every four years, which we also is today. this system was important because they new when to plant crops and when the Nile would flood, allowing the civilization to grow.

5.Black ink- Egyptians made black ink to be able to keep data on papyrus. They used ink for drawing hieroglyphics. This was important because black ink was used for a long period of time in history to write down information.
