Egyptian notes

Today in West Civ we finished going over the Egyptian power point.
The Nile and Two lands
Upper Egypt was 500 miles long
Upper Egypt was a strip of fertile along the Nile
Lower Egypt was a wide land of the Nile delta
The Nile empties out into the Mediterranean sea
The Nile supported the lives of Egyptians around 3100 BC the two lands were united by a Pharaoh
Pharaohs were seen as god king
Egyptians relied on a harmony and balance of the universe that they called maat
In ancient Egypt women had more rights then some other women in different cultures
Women could inherit money and land and get divorces. A small amount of women wielded real political power
hieroglyphics and hieratics was the earliest Egyptian writing forms, they were formed in 3100 BC
Hieroglyphics represent religious words or parts of words, and most commonly adorned temples
Hieratic script was a short hand developed by scribes and priest.
Writings were usually written with ink on papyrus
Egyptian astronomers made a calender with 365 days and 12 months that worked with he seasonal cycles
Egyptians also had great knowledge on human anatomy and doctors knew how to make potions and cures for people.
Egyptians created the sail boat allowing them to increase transportation through the Nile.
Pyramids we re massive stone tombs originally covered with white marble and they are still standing today.
Inside temples there were sculptures and paintings of humans and gods in poses. The paintings were made flat without perspective.
